Kees Cusveller, the vice president of Calgary-based Graham Group, led a discussion on technology and the construction industry at the Vertical Building Forum, held at the 99th annual Canadian Construction Association conference held in Mexico.

Cusveller said he regarded robotics as the next big change to overcome construction, and said that the industry has been slow to change but that sooner or later something would disrupt current practices, so the industry should get ahead of and steer change.

Cusveller acknowledged that currently the structure of the industry means contractors work for clients, and that often contractors, owners and architects work at cross-purposes. He said this will have to change if the industry wishes to adapt.
