Statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development show new housing starts increased to 549,000 units in March on an annualized, seasonally adjusted basis. Resales and new building permits are also on the rise.

U.S. government statistics show new housing starts increased to 549,000 units in March on an annualized, seasonally adjusted basis. Resales and new building permits are also on the rise.

A number of housing measures are under consideration south of the border, including a proposal to speed up the process of short sales, whereby owners in danger of foreclosure get permission to sell homes before the creditors move in.
