REGINA, SASK. - The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are investing a combined $7 million to support housing initiatives in the province's northern communities.
The initiatives are in La Loche, Ile-a-la-Crosse, La Ronge and Pinehouse Lake and will assist in the development of 44 affordable rental units and the renovation of eight emergency shelter units.
In La Loche, the Methy Housing Corporation will open a 14-unit affordable housing project. Funding has also been announced for the six-unit La Loche Elders' housing project. The Northern Student Build House project is two homes constructed by participating school divisions in La Loche and Ile-a-la-Crosse.
The SDC Property Management Family Housing Project will open five housing units for families in Ile-a-la-Crosse, and in La Ronge funding was announced for the La Ronge Native Womens' Council's Piwapan Women's Shelter addition and renovation project which adds to their present shelter.
Pinehouse Housing Corporation Elders' Complex, a 12-unit affordable housing project for elders in Pinehouse Lake, was also announced.
