Emil Anderson Construction Ltd. of Hope has been awarded a $27.2-million contract to design and build the Golden Hill to West Portal section of the Trans-Canada Highway - Kicking Horse Canyon project.

The 3.8-km Golden Hill to West Portal project will provide four lanes on the Trans-Canada Highway through to the signals at Highway 95, a grade separation at Golden Donald Upper Road, consolidated accesses, improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, and greater protection for wildlife with fencing and a crossing structure. Work is scheduled to finish by March 31, 2012.

A new fourth lane on Golden Hill was recently completed using local hired equipment and a major works paving contract, awarded to Dawson Construction of Kamloops.

Both the Golden Hill to West Portal and the Brake Check to Yoho National Park projects are being cost-shared under the federal Building Canada Fund’s Major Infrastructure Component.

The first two phases of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project, which were also cost-shared by both governments, have already been completed.
