A BC Hydro rate hike scheduled for April 1, 2011 has been suspended.
The British Columbia Utilities Commission ruled on Monday, March 28 that the interim rate increase of nearly 10 per cent would not go forward at present.
BC Hydro had planned a $6 billion long-term program of upgrades and new construction to meet increased electricity demand, and increased rates were one component of financing that work.
The British Columbia Utilities Commission had approved the new rates two weeks ago, but after the province promised a review it changed its stance.
