The Third International Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction, which offer a share of $2 million to professional and student competitors, close on March 23, 2011.
The competition is open to sustainable building and civil engineering works, landscape, urban design and infrastructure projects, and material, products and construction technologies. Entries must be submitted online at www.holcimawards.org.
Submissions fall into two main categories, projects in an advanced stage of design which have started after July 1, 2010 and a "next generation" category for projects submitted by students. The awards run on a three year cycle, with nearly 5,000 submissions from over 120 countries during the last cycle.
Dr. Raymond Cole, a professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Professor Mark West of the University of Manitoba , are the two Western Canadians on the Holcim Awards jury, and the full jury list can be viewed at the Holcim Foundation website. A step-by-step guide to entering the Holcim awards is also available.
