The 125 square kilometer St. Joseph Windfarm, located 100 kilometres south of Winnipeg Manitoba, officially opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony held on March 5, 2011.
The windfarm, located on private farmland, was the largest project of its kind when it was slated for construction in 2010. The windfarm has been generating power since January.
The windfarm has 60 operational turbines, each generating 2.3 megawatts of power. The $345-million project will supply enough energy to meet the needs of 50,000 homes according to Manitoba Hydro. Pattern Energy built the site thanks to a 27-year purchasing agreement with Manitoba Hydro.
