British Columbia premier Christy Clark announced on March 21, 2011 that expansion will go ahead on the Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, British Columbia. The $512-million expansion is the largest ever for British Columbia's health care sector.

The project will include an eight-storey critical care tower, a substantially larger emergency department, as well as a perinatal department for high-risk newborns, a larger adult intensive care unit and an expanded clinical academic campus.

The expansion will also renovate the existing hospital, including an expanded family birthing unit, a second dedicated maternity operating room and an expanded pharmacy and sterile processing unit.

The emergency department will be completed in 2013, and the critical care tower will open to patients in 2014. The project is expected to create over 3,270 construction-related jobs.

Integrated Team Solutions (ITS) entered into a fixed-price, performance based agreement to design, build, finance and maintain the new critical care tower and emergency department over a 30-year operating term. The new emergency department and critical care tower will be built to achieve LEED Gold certification.
