The Native Sons Hall, the largest free-span log building in Canada, has been recognized with a Facility Excellence Award at the British Columbia Recreation and Parks 2011 Provincial Awards.

The Native Sons Hall, the largest free-span log building in Canada, has been recognized with a Facility Excellence Award at the British Columbia Recreation and Parks 2011 Provincial Awards.

The Native Sons Hall underwent a $1.9 million renovation last year involving log and structural repairs, new ramps and canopies, and revamping of flooring, kitchen and bar facilities. Electrical and mechanical services were also improved.

The renovation was funded by the government of Canada, the British Columbia government and the city of Courtenay. The original structure was built in 1928.
