The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have made an arrest in the brutal attack of a security guard, who was left for dead at a school construction site in Port Coquitlam, BC.

“We are very, very happy that the culprits have been caught,” said Gurjeet (Greg) Lidder, cofounder and owner of Canuck Security Services.

“We have full confidence in the judicial system in the country and are confident the culprits will be brought to book.”

Security guard Hoshiyar Bajwa, 65, was on shift in the early hours of Oct. 14 at the construction site of a new building at the Pitt River Community Middle School, when he was attacked and brutally beaten by three unknown males.

One of the males entered into the construction site and told Bajwa that he was being followed and threatened by two men.

While this person involved Bajwa in small talk, he was approached from behind by two males and hit in the head.

He struggled with them and eventually fell down to the ground.

The three suspects ran away and left him for dead, without stealing anything from the site.

“Basically a person, a 16-year old, got criminally charged with one count of aggravated assault,” said Coquitlam RCMP Corporal Jamie Chung.

“We cannot name the youth because he is a young offender. Our investigation is not over yet. We are still examining other pieces of evidence. We are urging anyone with information, no matter how trivial you think it is, to come forward. It could be just the bit of information we need to bring those responsible to justice.”

Bajwa managed to make a call for help and was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with a serious eye injury, as well as cuts to his head that required between 50 and 100 stitches.

He was able to provide police with a rough description of one of the suspects.

At the time, the RCMP said the first suspect is a white male, about 5’-7’’ tall, who was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with a stripe.

A couple of weeks later, police released photographs of two jackets found near the scene.

The jackets and tips that followed are part of the investigation.

Lidder said Bajwa is still resting at home, but is on the road to recovery.

Canuck Security Services was established by Lidder and Arvinder Panesar in 2006 to provide security guard services and electronic surveillance. The company started with one employee and currently employs about 250 people.

Lidder is a retired army colonel, who served 25 years in the Indian Army. Bajwa also served in the Indian Army.
