The British Columbia Utilities Commission issued a decision on March 30 to allow B.C. Hydro to proceed with upgrades to the 82-year-old Ruskin Dam, located in the District of Mission and Ruskin, British Columbia.

The British Columbia Utilities Commission issued a decision on March 30 to allow B.C. Hydro to proceed with upgrades to the 82-year-old Ruskin Dam, located in the District of Mission and Ruskin, British Columbia.

Upgrades include reinforcing the right bank, upgrading the powerhouse, relocating the switchyard and seismically upgrading the dam and water intakes.

When the project is completed the Ruskin Dam will produce 379 gigawatt hours of average energy per year using three 38-megawatt generators.

The estimated cost of the project is $718 million and completion is estimated for 2018.
