Construction is underway on a new agricultural overpass on Highway 17 and 28th Ave. in Delta, B.C.

The new overpass will provide a east-west route across Highway 17 and serve as a link for agricultural traffic, as well as for pedestrians, local residents, cyclists and emergency vehicle, the province says.

The overpass will also re-route farm and local traffic away from 57B Ave., the Deltaport Way intersection and a railway line.

JJM Construction Ltd. of Delta was awarded a $2.3-million contract to construct the overpass.

Work is expected to finish in March 2011.

The federal government contributed $2.4 million to the project through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund; Port Metro Vancouver is contributing $2.6 million and the province is investing $800,000.
