VANCOUVER - The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has submitted an application for an environmental certificate to construct the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project to the provincial Environmental Assessment Office (EAO).
An application review period of 180 days will now begin for the project, including a 60-day public comment period with three open houses. The 60-day public comment period spans Aug. 3 to Oct. 3, 2016.
Open houses will be held on Aug. 17 and Sept. 14 at the Delta Town and Country (6005 Highway 17A at Highway 99) in Delta and on Sept. 13 at the Sandman Signature Hotel Vancouver Airport (10251 St. Edwards Dr.) in Richmond. All open houses will be from 2 to 8 p.m.
Comments can also be submitted online during the public comment period at www.eao.gov.bc.ca/pcp/index.html.
The George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project is intended to relieve current traffic congestion and will replace the existing tunnel with a new bridge and related improvements on Highway 99 between Bridgeport Road in Richmond and Highway 91 in Delta. Construction is expected to begin in 2017, with completion of the new bridge by 2022.
