The southern Alberta office of Merit Contractors Association held its first breakfast at Buildex Calgary recently and focused on the issue of succession planning.
Jake Appelman, a principal with the FMI Centre for Strategic Leadership, stressed the importance of succession planning for many organizations. He said the financial crash of 2008 meant many leaders had to continue working, which meant pushing back succession further than originally planned.
Appelman added that organizations should approach succession in an analytical manner, even though the topic lends itself to emotion and conflict.
Peter Pilarski, the vice president for Southern Alberta for Merit Contractors Association, discussed succession planning as well as Merit's new presence at the Buildex Calgary conference.
