Brxton Construction LLP CEO Bill Black was a recent speaker at Buildex Express, held in downtown Vancouver. Black addressed the challenges and advantages of lean construction methods as opposed to traditional approaches to projects.
Black also spoke to the Journal of Commerce, and said lean construction is a manufacturing principle applied to the construction industry that saves time and cost through waste reduction.
the industry has a tendency to silo itself rather than collaborate, he said, which results in conflict. Adherence to traditional methods also slows things down, but Black pointed out younger workers often rely solely on digital tools, which eliminates paper trails and makes tracing and fixing mistakes difficult.
Black also pointed out that an economic downturn, while unfortunate, can often drive innovation further than when companies are doing well adhering to standard methods.
