On Jan. 7, 1981 Brian Stevenson, Gunther Couvreux, Donald Davis and Yrjo Mitrunen fell to their deaths from the 36th floor of the Bentall Centre's Tower IV after a fly form attached to the building that was being used for pouring concrete broke free.

The Journal of Commerce attended the annual ceremony marking the accident, and spoke to Dianne Stevenson, the sister-in-law of Brian Stevenson.

The Journal also spoke to WorkSafeBC vice president of prevention services Al Johnson about that organization's upcoming drive to increase fall prevention awareness, and BC Building Trades executive director Tom Sigurdson about worker safety and of the importance at all levels of the industry to emphasize safety in the workplace.
