Construction Labour Relations Association of B.C. vice president of government relations Dave Earle recently spoke on a panel on marijuana legalization at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association's Construction Leadership Forum in Whistler, B.C.

Earle said it is imperative for organizations to have a plan in place to address substance use before marijuana becomes legal in 2018. Both the employer and workers have responsibilities regarding substance use and safety in the workplace.

Earle also said that while there may be an uptick in marijuana use once it becomes legal, he can't think of anyone "who is waiting to try it when it becomes legal to do so," and said other jurisdictions have seen similar results upon legalization.
