FortisBC is building an 11-kilometre natural gas line twinning an existing gas line from Surrey to Coquitlam in the Lower Mainland.
The Journal of Commerce was able to tour the site and spoke to project manager Ian Miki about the challenges of building an extensive gas line in a dense neighbourhood.
Miki said in addition to the tight space, rainy weather at the beginning of the year and dusty, dry weather currently also posed a challenge.
The upgrade crosses 39 roads, four highways, one railway and 21 First Nation communities. FortisBC estimates the overall capital cost of the project will be $171 million.
