Petro-Canada defers contract with Bird Construction for six buildings at oilsands project

Petro-Canada has deferred a $107-million contract with Bird Construction Income Fund to build six buildings at the Fort Hills oilsands project near Fort McMurray.

Under the provisions of the contract, Bird is entitled to payment for work completed to date only.

The contract was put on hold just over a year ago. Suncor Energy gained a 60 per cent interest in Petro-Canada’s Fort Hills project when it took over the company last year.

Suncor is not moving ahead on the $ 20 billion integrated mine and upgrader project. However, Suncor has restarted its Firebag 3 in situ expansion project.
