Vancouver, B.C.
Spinal Cord Injury B.C. (SCIBC), formerly known as the B.C. Paraplegic Association, has been a charity partner of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association for many years.
Established in 1975, SCIBC has been focused on helping people with spinal cord injuries and their families adjust and adapt post injury.
Their mission is one that is close to home for VRCA.
The construction community has witnessed its fair share of job related accidents and VRCA members have always supported this particular cause.
During the past three years alone, the VRCA has consistently presented a $10,000 cheque at their Annual Christmas Luncheon to Spinal Cord Injury BC.
VRCA members have also taken the lead to build awareness for this cause.
For example, at the recent VRCA Golf Tournament, members held fun competitions at a variety of areas on the course to raise even more funds for SCIBC.
Super Save Group of Companies, Steels Industrial Products Ltd. and Viewpoint Construction Software together were able to raise more than $1,700.
Proceeds from the VRCA support programs such as the invaluable Peer Program and the Information Services Resource Centre.
Both programs are accessible in person, by phone or online.
These are vital services that help those individuals and their families, who are dealing with a new injury or struggling with the ongoing challenges of living and aging with a physical disability.
“The support we receive from VRCA is invaluable in allowing us to provide these essential services - we are extremely grateful” said Chris McBride, executive director of Spinal Cord Injury BC.
Bursaries and scholarships are also available to individuals with a spinal cord injury.
It will support them with their post-secondary education.
Spinal Cord Injury BC continues to look for support for their charitable goals.
Please contact Spinal Cord Injury B.C.'s Vancouver office to learn how you can get involved by calling 604-324-3611 or emailing info@sci-bc.ca.
